Worms in Dirt is a Seattle-based trio known for playing short, energetic bursts of lyrically dense indie folk/punk. On their new record, I Almost Touched a Fish, they expand their arrangements, write with more honesty, and produce with more intention and experience than on any previous release.

Originating in 2018, Worms in Dirt has since evolved from Sam Hendricks’s songwriting outlet into an established band with Hunter Grier on drums and Declan Hoban on bass. On I Almost Touched a Fish, they are joined by several friends contributing additional instruments, harmonies, and other sounds, including legendary PNW fiddle player, Miriam Hacksaw featuring on two tracks.

The album was spiritually fed by Olympic Peninsula camping trips, DIY touring, a small-town Californian childhood, the Seattle music scene, and trying to survive being trans in 2025. Over 24 minutes, the album explores themes and thoughts shaped by these experiences through a surreal, yet sharp lens. Since 2022, Worms in Dirt has embarked on several tours, focusing on the West Coast and its bordering inland states.

They will be going on another West Coast tour in August 2026. They have served as local support for many established acts in their scene, like Shinobu, Ging Nang Boyz, Chris Farren, Foot Ox, and Walter Mitty and His Makeshift Orchestra. I Almost Touched a Fish was self-recorded by the band at Whalehouse Studio Co-Op, mixed by Sam at her home studio, and will be mastered by Dylan Wall (feeble little horse, Hotline TNT, So Pitted) at 7 Hills Studio.
